Each of our wines has a special place in our hearts. They all have a back story that ties in with our family’s history. From our initial core Bordeaux Style blends “La Sœur” and “Le Frère” that represent the sisters and brothers of our family to our annual spring release of “Grandma Lila’s Rose” named for Erin’s grandmother who swore that any pink wine was “The good stuff,” and wanted you to save it for her. We hope that the stories and ancestry we have for all of our wines will only be the beginning of many more that we can all share together.

Winemaker Lance Baer founded Baer Winery in 2000 with a single passion—to bring something unique to Woodinville. After years of working with some of the most prestigious wineries in the area, Lance wanted to take his winemaking skills in his own direction. Lance succeeded in handcrafting blends distinctly his own, and in April 2003 the first vintage of the winery’s signature blend, Ursa, was released. Ursa, a feminine expression of red wine, predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Franc, was soon followed by Arctos, a bolder Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend.

As operations moved from an apartment in Redmond to a converted property on six rural acres in Woodinville, the winery was able to grow in production. Lance’s passion went from just 200 cases in 2003 to over 3,000 cases now. In late 2007, Baer Winery moved into the popular warehouse wine complex near downtown Woodinville – a move which has allowed us to grow to producing approximately 3,500 cases per year, with a view to continuing to increase to 5,000.
Sadly, our founder, son, brother and friend, Lance Baer, passed away in May of 2007, at the age of 39. But the Baer family, Lisa and Les, with the expertise of consulting winemaker Erica Orr, are continuing to produce the wines that Lance was devoted to creating, as well as continuing to evolve and add new blends to the winery’s line-up.

Barnard Griffin has pioneered quality wine production in Washington State since 1983. With Rob Griffin as Head Winemaker and his wife Deborah Barnard as Co-Owner, Barnard Griffin is a family operation, continuing to this day with their daughter, Megan Hughes as Second-Generation Winemaker. Decisions at Barnard Griffin are driven by Rob and Deborah’s lifelong dream to make world-class wines on their terms: a desire to put the absolute best wine in everyone’s glass, regardless of their budget. Barnard Griffin strives to make exceptional wines that speak to the Columbia Valley–a journey which starts with having the highest standards for growers and the winery’s production.

Elizabeth Keyser is no stranger to the intricacies of making wine in the emerging Rocky Reach AVA. She has worked harvests in McLauren Vale Australia, New York’s Finger Lakes, and most recently Napa Valley CA. Liz's philosophy that meticulous care in the vineyard leads to pure wines is expressed throughout her beautiful expression of our wines.
