Cascade Cliffs has some of the state's original plantings of Barbera and Nebbiolo, dating back to the late 80's. The Estate vineyard and winery has been a Columbia Gorge destination for over 30 years, and has won numerous awards for its Barbera, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and others. The winery also grows and produces the rare Symphony varietal, a genetic cross of Muscat of Alexandria and Grenache Gris. Cascade Cliffs is an earth friendly grower, utilizing organic and biodynamic techniques throughout the vineyard.

Well, we wrote all the vision stuff like ‘Our intention is to make wines that are considered among the finest available, and that will hopefully find their way onto your table’ and such, which is true. Darby English meticulously crafts his varietals, delicately balancing the unique flavors of each grape to transform them into Washington’s best wines. With precision, passion, and more than a decade of award-winning experience, Darby stays at the forefront of the industry, cultivating wines with elegance and edge. Darby is a 1st generation Washington grown winemaker and proud 20+ year resident of the incomparable West Seattle. His passion lies in the Rhone varietals, think Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne; but he enjoys making a killer Cabernet and Cabernet blends. He believes in low intervention and minimalistic wine making; and he believes in winemaking as an art form, not just by the numbers. He believes in starting with the best fruit, and doesn't compromise on fruit quality so he puts a lot of of energy into sourcing fruit from the best vineyards in WA for the specific varietals that he wants to work with, fruit that has a sense of place. 20 years later he still loves and believes in Washington wine. 20 years in he still plays a very active head winemaking role, still touching every piece of fruit that comes in all the way to the juice going in to the bottle.
