Baer Winery Woodin Creek

No Reservations! Walk-ins welcome. Winemaker Lance Baer founded Baer Winery in 2000 with a single passion—to bring something unique to Woodinville. After years of working with some of the most prestigious wineries in the area, Lance wanted to take his winemaking skills in his own direction. Lance succeeded in handcrafting blends distinctly his own, and in April 2003 the first vintage of the winery’s signature blend, Ursa, was released. Ursa, a feminine expression of red wine, predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Franc, was soon followed by Arctos, a bolder Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend. As operations moved from an apartment in Redmond to a converted property on six rural acres in Woodinville, the winery was able to grow in production. Lance’s passion went from just 200 cases in 2003 to over 3,000 cases now. In late 2007, Baer Winery moved into the popular warehouse wine complex near downtown Woodinville – a move which has allowed us to grow to producing approximately 3,500 cases per year, with a view to continuing to increase to 5,000. Sadly, our founder, son, brother and friend, Lance Baer, passed away in May of 2007, at the age of 39. But the Baer family, Lisa and Les, with the expertise of consulting winemaker Erica Orr, are continuing to produce the wines that Lance was devoted to creating, as well as continuing to evolve and add new blends to the winery’s line-up.

Lisa Callan launched her professional winemaking career by diving headfirst into the highly acclaimed WSU enology program in 2010. From there she embarked on whirlwind journey working as a production intern at a prestigious Woodinville winery that taught her the hands-on skills of critical winemaking with a focus on structured, well balanced wine. From there she honed her talents as an assistant winemaker at another Woodinville establishment before striking out on her own under the Callan Cellars label. Callan Cellars is proud to showcase wines made from grapes sourced from some of Washington’s preeminent vineyards located in the Columbia Valley, Red Mountain, Walla Walla, and most recently, Lake Chelan AVAs, where Lisa and her husband Mike have recently opened up their second tasting room.

Wilridge Pie Wine Bar
Winemaker/Master Distiller Lenora Thelen Winemaker and Master Distiller Lenora Thelen's adventure began in 2010 when she started working in a retail wine and spirits department. "At the time I didn't drink, but felt that I should know more about what I was selling. At first I read the front and back of the labels. Then I decided I should taste some of the bottles to get a better idea of what the descriptions on the labels meant. The first wine I tried was Moscato from Northern Italy. I was shocked at how sweet it was. Then I tried Riesling, which was also sweet. So I decided to try Rose', but I was puzzled by all the shades of pink. Which one should I pick? So I went back to reading the labels and discovered all the different grape varieties that went into the different Rose's. It wasn't long before I was exploring reds such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. I started to ask a lot of questions and read everything I could get my hands on about wine and grapes." To learn even more about wine, in 2015 Lenora started to volunteer at Wilridge. "I would volunteer on my days off: cleaning tanks, topping up barrels, stomping grapes, hauling hoses, punching down fermentations, bottling and pouring at events. It did not matter what I got to do, I was so thrilled to be part of the wine creation process. I was a true Cellar Rat and proud of it." In 2021 Lenora was offered a full time position as Assistant Winemaker at Wilridge. "It was hard to leave retail and all my friends, but I could not pass up this opportunity. Eventually, in addition to winemaking, I also took over operation of the Wilridge Alembic Pot Still. While I have now been promoted to Winemaker and Master Distiller, I still feel like a Cellar Rat because there is always more to learn. I owe this job to Wilridge founder Paul Beveridge and my family who believed in me, put up with my long hours, and supported my dream of making fabulous Washington wine and spirits.”
